The sculpture is made up of many deformed funnels. It seems that all these funnels are gathering something from the air and the sky and collect them in the alley. But such gathering is only visible when it rains. Since it dose not often rain in Melbourne, in order to make the gathering always be visible, some ‘mucous drops’ were added at the bottoms of the ‘funnels’, symbolizing the collection. People will also feel precarious when walking in the alley, under the sculpture. The feeling is that the drops of mucus will drop on your head at any time. This proposal also suits the existing alley. There are many Graffiti on the walls, while the sculpture is actually a ‘3D Graffiti’ in the alley. It looks like interlaced Graffiti from many views, and the ‘drops’ stand for the wet paint drip from the Graffiti.
This sculpture is planed to be made of fibre glass and in bright white. Because fibre glass is light, easily being transported, and comparatively cheap. And it can be made into any shapes. There are two methods to make it luminescent in the night. One is to put light in the sculpture. The other is to smear the sculpture with luminous paint. There is one kind of paint known which is applied on the railings of flyovers in Shanghai. This kind of paint will glow when being low voltaic electrified.
The change of light and the effect of light on the sculpture is the most important thing to this concept. In theory, the light changes every second. Moreover, in different weather the light on the sculpture is also different.
Changeable light gives the sculpture changeable looks. Different looks gives different people different feelings.
